New Buildbox AI Version 1.1 Release Now Available

By May 2, 2024Buildbox

We’re thrilled to share that Buildbox AI version 1.1 is now out for Buildbox 4! This update is loaded with fresh features, making bringing your game ideas to life easier than ever. The AI is getting smarter and can handle multi-step tasks like “make my character shoot,” where it sets up a bullet asset and adjusts the code to add shooting abilities to your character. You can also try fun commands like “When my character walks, make it plant a tree.” Let your imagination run wild!

Another cool feature in version 1.1 is how the AI handles asset references. It usually picks an asset automatically, but now you can tweak those choices. For example, when one asset relies on another (like your Player needing a Bullet to shoot), the AI adds an Asset Attribute to make it easy to change related assets from the attributes panel. This means you can quickly switch your Player to shoot Trees instead of Bullets, giving you tons of flexibility while keeping the Buildbox development style we all love!

Along with these exciting features, we’ve also squashed a few bugs to ensure a smoother and more reliable experience!

Here’s What’s New & Improved in Buildbox AI 1.1!

New Features

  • AI is starting to learn multi-step requests!
    • Example: For “make my character shoot”, the AI can create a new asset to be the bullet, then continue to make code changes to the bullet and character to implement shooting.
    • You could also try “when my character walks make it plant a tree”. Be creative!
  • AI can now use Asset references. By default, the AI will select an asset automatically, but users can change it manually.
    • Example: In situations where one asset depends on another for functionality, such as a Player requiring a Bullet to shoot, the AI can create an Asset Attribute to make it easy to modify the associated asset via the attributes panel. This update enables you to quickly reconfigure your Player to shoot Trees instead of Bullets in usual Buildbox-development style.
  • Added AI Code Generation to AI Assistant (previously limited to AI Code Edit button). The main chat dialog can now write code if it can’t find pre-existing nodes to fulfill a request with. It’s still recommended to use the AI Edit button when possible for more precise results.

Fixes:

  • Improved AI handling of Node Groups.
  • Improved AI behavior when using the selection tool.
  • Improved AI performance when working on large mind maps.
  • AI is better at handling requests in languages other than English.
  • AI can add particle effects anywhere, not just on objects.
  • Start node will no longer group with other nodes.
  • Selection tool will not change the sky or ground.
  • AI is better at recovering from invalid generations like “number=2.0.”.
  • Improved overall AI reliability.
  • Made other minor bug fixes and improvements.

A special thanks to all our amazing creators! By sharing your feedback, you help our AI assistant learn and improve! Stay tuned for more exciting updates and announcements soon.
