The Buildbox Free Saga: Our Vision

Since Buildbox’s debut in 2015, we’ve built one of the biggest no-code game development communities with over 500,000 creators. More than 50,000 games have also been made with our software from hits like Color Switch and Cessabit to Nite Fighter. We’re now closer than ever to our original vision for the software, which was to empower anyone with an idea to be able to create video games without having to code.

Our software is quickly evolving, and we’re so proud of what we’ve accomplished and the direction we’re heading. In the video above, Trey shares some of the current and new features that we’ve added to the software to help reduce the barriers of coding. These options range from smart assets to the upcoming addition of brainboxes to Buildbox 3.

In Buildbox 3, we introduced smart assets (predefined asset templates) to make building out your 3D and 2D games easier. Smart assets allow you to create unique gameplay mechanics based on the most current trends with a quick click. For developers who want to customize their gameplay further, there’s an advanced node system too. You can easily create logic for any character or object in your game by adding a node. And for coders, you have the option to modify any node or create your own with low-code.

With Buildbox Free, we’ve also added a new feature called brainboxes. They function similar to components from Buildbox 2, but with a few additional features. Brainboxes let you create complete games inside Buildbox in 2D or 3D without having to use smart assets, touch nodes, or even low-code. There will also be many other new features like new nodes, asset bar in the mindmap, and 2D worlds.

As Trey mentions in the video, you’ll be able to build unlimited games with Buildbox Free. You’ll also get access to all these new features. We’ll be sharing even more details on this in the coming weeks!
