Making great things is about paying attention to the details. With Buildbox, you can truly zero in on these details and make something unique with your game. The first way to do that is with effects.

First we’ve included an amazing light effect that is seen in popular games like Thomas Was Alone and our very own Phases.  This effect is extremely dramatic and with Buildbox can be used in some very unique ways.  As you see in this picture we’ve used 7 different lights that all interact with the characters and objects in real time, giving a strong visual effect to the scene.

We also have integrated trails and flag effects that move dynamically with the game. You can attach these trails to the character or objects for some very interesting movement effects.

Turn the average character into a superhero.

Besides the classics like invincibility and kill all enemies, we also have some unique options like coin magnetization and strike.  Since we integrated the full checkpoint system (set checkpoint, recall checkpoint, skip checkpoint) into the power-up section, you can do some truly unique things like creating portals that shoot your character through different parts of the game.

All power-ups can be activated in multiple ways.  First you could have them freely available inside your scene. You would designate an icon for the power-up and it would activate when a character collides. You can also choose to activate the power-up with a button.  This would be especially useful for a Strike power-up to be used as a melee attack or a kill all enemies power-up for a bomb in a space shooter.

Connect the dots

Connections mode can be entered by clicking the connection button or holding the Alt key at anytime. Once in connection mode you can easily connect objects together.  These objects will now be linked together and can be moved as one or duplicated as a group.

While groups is an essential feature of Buildbox, we wanted to take connections farther, so we also added in motors and pivots.

Adding a motor to any connection is easy.  You just click the connection line and choose what speed and torque that connection will have. Now you can easily connect wheels to characters, enemies and objects and have them collide and move with the real world physics, or simply create swinging axe that moves in circles.
