⚡ It's Time We Have A Buildbox Game Jam! ⚡

A 'Game Jam' is an event where/when participants make a full game– from conception to completion – in a pre-determined, short period of time, usually one weekend.

Given how far we are from each other (I'm from the Philippines), it can be done online. I think the Buildbox Team should host a game jam for the following reasons:

• It can showcase the skills of the game devs in this forum
• It can showcase how easy it is to make a full game using Buildbox
• Other game engines have done it and it has given them great PR
• It can further improve the camaraderie and engagement of the Buildbox community
• Got lots of new content to put in the Buildbox Youtube Channel

It can be done at a future date with a secret theme. There must be a set of rules everyone must follow. No one should start making the game before the Game Jam. While everyone won't know if this is true, Game Jam participants usually abide by the principles of honor and honesty. Once the game jam starts it is only when the unique theme is announced. Participants have a short time, let's say 3 days, to finish the game. We can submit something like an APK so participants don't need to wait for apple's approval. The game could be judged and there could be winners and prizes, or it could be non-competitive.

I would be up for that!! I host a regional game jam every year. It has sparked the ideas for 3 games I am working on currently! Forces you to be creative within a 48hr period.

 

This sounds like more stress.

How 'bout the BuildBox artist (Whoever it is they use for their game assets) does some free art for the winner's game?

 

I participated in the last Game Jam at ue4 in the last 18 months and I can say it was a great pleasure and fun.
Stressful yes, but for every Game Jam you can find other ideas about games.
I did not win anything at Game Jam, and there are 500 teams at ue4 but I saw Game Jam released, winner, then polished and is on sale at Steam.

awesome! rewards of course, will depend on the BB Team, and if they greenlight the game jam at all, and how often the game jam occurs. if it's a once a year thing hopefully they'll bring BIG rewards!

Sidenote: yeah I'd love to have a game made by BB's artist Dani.


and yes it's stressful,but pressure can turn coals into diamonds you know. or just crushed coal. it's a 50/50 thing haha.

as for the question of where one can find more game jams and the calendars for them? there are some on https://itch.io/jams. I set up my own itch io account too: https://appsir.itch.io so I can join. Buildbox can host the jam over there too and it would be very easy to do

 

A BB Jam would be cool.

I suggested something similar a while back, where BB or everyone agrees on a theme and we all go away and return in a weeks/months time and see what we all came up with.

I think this would be an awesome idea. It would get the creativity flowing and be great for the community.

I've mentioned the GameJam topic in the past as well and Trey definitely loves the idea, so there is a big chance of this becoming a reality.

Zack will update us though, I know he will not blink ( he never does anyways) or sleep till making this happen... no pressure brother!
