TODAY’S GOAL:
Learn In-App Purchases
Pure Action + Monetization
We decided to do something really crazy with power-ups in Buildbox. Instead of just having icons you can collect in your game, we wanted to take it to the next level with “actions”.
Actions include power-ups, check points, melee strikes, guns and more, and they can each be assigned to buttons or icons in your game. This allows you to come up with some really unique ways of using your actions.
We’ve also included a full inventory system for each action. For example, you could only allow the user to have 3 “kill all enemy” power-ups or “continue checkpoints”. After they’ve used them up, you could have it replenish after a certain amount of time (like Candy Crush) and allow them to purchase some immediately with real money if they do not want to wait.
As you’ll see, the way we’ve set this up is very unique. It allows countless possibilities in your game and gives you tons to explore.

Choose Which Actions You’ll Use
So what actions should you choose?
The answer is surprisingly simple. It all depends on two factors: A) How complex you want your game to be and B) How much time you have left in your trial version of Buildbox!
Yes, actions and In-App Purchases are important (they can make your game much more profitable), but If you haven’t completed your levels yet you might want to come back and do these as an afterthought.
Basically it boils down to this:
It’s better to leave power-ups out than to not complete your game at all!
It’s time to take a close evaluation of your game and see where it’s currently standing. If you are caught up and have been doing the lessons on time, then you have more than enough time to add in coins, In-App Purchases and anything else you need.
Setup The System
The one thing you’ll definitely need to completely incorporate In-App Purchases into your game is an account with whichever app store you plan on publishing in!
We recommend starting with Google Play (Android) and the Apple App Store (iPhone & iPad). Go ahead and sign up with them and get started making your accounts (protip: a personal account is fine when getting started).
Setting up your In-App Purchases is not hard either. It’s actually pretty self explanatory and you’ll find hundreds of videos on youtube that can help you. Below are some resources to get you started:
