This is a very interesting move from Valve, especially for those of us publishing Buildbox based games. It essentially means you'll no longer have to get your game approved from the Steam community (e.g. Greenlight). Steam will now be pretty much the same as submitting your game for sale/download on the App Store. Nice! More details here: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/20...h-steam-greenlight-open-up-with-steam-direct/
maybe you didn't read all the article , you need now to pay $5000 to add your game to steam direct, even top developer with awesome games can't afford that
They haven't decided the fee yet, they said the range they got when they asked for input was a low of $100 to a high of $5000.
They have said anywhere between $100 and $5000. This is to set expectations. When it costs vastly less than $5,000 it'll sound like a bargain. This is community and marketing 101
Well, we hope they stay around $100 fee, because Greenlight in fact is not very time consuming and expensive. We passed Steam Greenlight for 2 weeks without any spending on collecting votes. As a result it was fast to get the green light and we finally released our game Dreamlike Worlds on Steam. We are considering to write an article about our experience with Steam submission. Please, let us know if it will be interesting for you.
It depends on the game that is created. But it will definitely generate revenue. We have some revenue at the moment and we are working on generating more revenue. Steam is not oversaturated like the App Store and Google Play and it's great. Also this is a good fact to have a game published on Steam when you go to mobile publishers I think.
