I think they're well received in a new guise. Take Crossy Road for example, quite literally a direct copy of Frogger with some up-to-date characters etc. They obviously strike a note with new gamers and people of my generation who experienced them for the first time in the 80's - Happy Days The likes of Mario and Sonic etc are still solid benchmarks for strong, gameplay platformers.
