This week we are happy to announce "Dot Lines" Developed by Kamil from Gamezaur Download Now, Available for IOS in the App Store I'm really proud of the hard work Kamil put into making this game. This is a great example of the term "polish" and executing an idea from prototype to a complete product. Dot Lines is a fast paced one-tap game of reflex and skill. Pick the perfect moment and spring to action. Dash between the lines, avoid red dots and collect blue ones. Navigate challenging geometrical puzzles, improve your score, and use it to unlock new characters!
Wow, that was a crazy ride! Our goal was to create a simple yet challenging, beautiful, one-tap control game. In the beginning the main graphic theme was about a bird jumping on electric lines in the sky. When I decided that the game was ready, we sent it to BB Publishing. However the feedback we got was that the game is indeed fun to play but the graphics are simply not enough to compete with high quality illustrated games. After a few tries at making it better and better we made a bald move - we took a few steps back and completely changed the game theme. After those changes we immediately got a green light for it. So, that was about 2(!) days of creating main engine with the graphics! And then… about 30 days working on levels, tweaks and improvements. Note that the birds graphics took us about 2 weeks to create… The most important thing I learned from this project, and the best advice I can give? Don't be afraid to change EVERYTHING if you have a feeling that it could be better. Don't stick to your current project, don't love it too much! Polish to the limits, but be aware of what you are polishing. If the starting point isn’t strong enough, you will only waste your time and in the end you might realise that there was no gem to polish to begin with. Big thanks to the BB team & community, especially for @TreySmith who pointed out that the graphic direction could be redone and @Aaron F who led us though the publishing process. Any comments and feedback will be much appreciated!
really nice game, great execution!!! Was hoping to hear was inspired by ooshi/cavern, but love your work well done! I expect this one to do very well
@darone , @dhawal_tamakuwala - Thanks guys! @Lee Fellows , I know the feeling - you can imagine my surprise when I saw Cavern (and that was long after Dot Lines has been submitted to BB). The game that inspired me most was the Cube Jump by Ketchapp (idea of jumping in the right moment at the moving platforms). Never heard about Ooshi. Thanks for the kind words!
No problem, my game was inspired by frogger originally... Love game development And well done again, game is great
Great work @Kamil Kucma, just played it a few times and love the look and feel. Congrats on getting published and good luck with it, hope it gets you tons of downloads
Very cool game. Congrats. Love the graphical experience. One thing though which I think is not on purpose: the first interstitial that I got was a video ad. I also experienced some crashes. The loading time of the app is also very very slow and it seems I can't open gamecenter. It crashed one time with the loading screen, one time with the video ad and one time with gamecenter. This is all on a 4s. Sometimes the game overall is extremely laggy too. It seems this is a general issue with Buildbox games on older devices. My own game has the same problem. Probably a memory or CPU issue. On the iphone 6 everything seems to work great.
Love it! Hard work pays off. Great idea, great execution. The menu background art is phenomenal. Good luck.
Great game!!! I played for an hour last night unlocking the characters. I have a couple of questions. I didn't know watching ads for coins was an option. I'm new to the whole buildbox family. Also, how did you get the ball to stick to the line and get enemies to rotate like that. Again, great game, congrats. Kevin
@Kamil Kucma I thought the character Dot called "Magical" was fascinating. Never seen anything like this on BB. Can't imagine what was done to achieve this. Great job! I suppose how you did it is going to be a secret?
