Making your own art

Hi everyone. I am very new to build box and I don't fully understand how all this works yet but I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a website where i can make my own backgrounds, characters, and objects ect. I dont like having to choose from a limited amount of art and Id really like to be able to create my own unique characters and backgrounds (for free please). Thanks!

P.S. I am on a pc if that matters.

 

For PC, Gimp would probably be your best bet for free graphic creation software.
