You can use points to calculate coins, or anything like that. Points are handy also doing some calculations behind the scenes. For an example if you want to make game end after user has found certain amount of X objects. The question is: How can you have multiple "point" counters. For an example if you want to show user how many coins he has collected, how many stars he has collected etc. I remember that in BB you had points and coins (if I dont remember wrong). I used to use the other one to work behind the scenes (inivisble to user) and other one I used to calculate distance for the player to see.
