Hi Everybody. I'm new on this forum, and creating my first game, with Buildbox. My name is Martijn Kuilema (Jollydo), from the Netherlands, 42, webdesigner entrepreneur, producer (Ableton Live), husband, and father Game development is something i do in all the spare time i have, and i'm serious about it. So.. I'm working on this game i call "Split". I want to know if it's any good? It's about 35% finished, with 1 World containing 13 scenes (endless). Any input on the game would be great. Thanks a lot! ps: the game runs much smoother then what the video shows. Cause of screen capture software.
We are big fans of flat and clean casual games! Looks quite fun! Let us know as soon as you got a Beta ready
Thanks a lot @Eageron for your input. I will keep you posted on the progress and when Beta comes available. Cool
This looks great. Lots of potential here. I love the concept too. Be sure to add more decoy enemies, like the ones that move, but have them move back again. That would be cool. Looking forward to a beta also
Wow, this looks really nice! Its definitely going to be featured if you polish it like crazy! I am sure you already know and that this will be done in the rest of those 65%, but I'll say it anyway. You need to find a suitable background music (maybe Zen style, something similar like in "The Line Zen") and to work more on UI design.
Thanks a lot @Tarsier Games ! I wasn't sure if the game had potential, but then again, I couldn't find any other game which is exactly the same like mine. Only Magnets is similar. Polish: I find it hard to find the correct look for this game. never thought it would be so hard to give a game the correct look it needs: I tried minimalistic, like Ketchapp games Neon glow style A little bit of 3d top view dark background Using Gradients on everything, more an Apple pleasing style. Because of the heavy mechanics of the game shadows aren't possible. Only Light effects without shadows can be displayed, which is a shame. Maybe the look of the game Fast Track will suit my game... but it's hard to give it the same mirror depth. Anyhow, I will try more game designs, designing in Illustrator. Music: I think I'm gonna make it myself, like Trey did for his games UI design: I agree, I can be more subtle, less buttons. Will be ok next time
How did you create a character that splits and stick back like this ? this is awesome Also are you planning to include other shapes like circle ? Eagerly awaiting for this game.
Really @5petersonzachary ? Do you know the name of the game? Cause I didn't knew that! Thanks! Martijn
@Saravanan "How did you create a character that splits and stick back like this ? this is awesome" -> Thanks, it took me a month of try and error, trying different techniques. It's all about logic thinking and then figuring out which technique can make it happen . I knew by default it isn't very easy to do something like this in Buildbox, but I just never gave up. The most difficult part is keeping the 2 characters together at the same height ;-) Also are you planning to include other shapes like circle ? -> I hope so, I must try if a round collision area won't mess up the game mechanics, but I will certainly try
If you did want circles, you could still use rectangle Collision shapes Then it wouldn’t mess with your logic.
here is a bb game with the same idea was created by a boxer called rizwan https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/split-em-up/id1177887018?mt=8
Thanks @5petersonzachary ! The game is not on the App Store anymore, but I found a video. Indeed similar. And thank you @wesam_badr for pointing me to this current BB game. Indeed the same idea, only the character is splitting way faster, almost in an instant. But good level design ideas Both great for model & improve I notice then none of the examples uses side walls by the way... Martijn
Dude I have downloaded and played it as said earlier it doesn't stick on walls like Martijn's game and also ads are playing during game play which is annoying. But the characters shapes while it splits is nice.
I downloaded it today too from the link you posted. It’s tough! But I think this one (split) would be more fun though.
Polish: It is always the hardest thing to choose the correct look and theme for the game. I am also having trouble with my new game with that, but I guess you need to choose one and stick with it and make it perfect. It would definitely look awesome if you could do it like Fast Track, but unfortunately not possible in this BB version. Music: That is great! I wish I could do it myself also, but I am not that musical. UI: Less is more!
Hi @Jollydo .FYI i came across similar type of game while looking for few tutorials on youtube here is the link to the game https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Naamapps.splitthecube
