Anyway to incorporate star rating for each level? I know most games base it on time, but since buildbox doesnt support timers....it it possible to award stars based on number of an action item picked up?
Check out this thread https://www.buildbox.com/forum/inde...r-tutorial-coming-soon.4316/page-2#post-27142 He used custom fonts to create a health bar for the character. I'm sure you can use custom fonts (replacing the numbers with stars) to indicate how many actions where collected.
HOLY MOLY! This is genius! Thanks telerebor. Great thinking. We really should get a new section called "Buildbox Hacks". This deserves to be much more visible. @Andy?
I love to see my font hack evolve! Hum... If fonts can be used as graphics, maybe they won't take up ANY room in you atlases
Font's can't be used as graphics (platforms or physics objects) right now. I thought the same the first time I saw your hack @VectologyGames. But I'm sure that there will be a negative site to it if fonts would be allowed and we use them for everything. What you can do now for sure is use them as simple backgrounds (decoration objects). For example with gradients which is very cool. But honestly I don't think it's worth the hustle. Simple graphics do not take much space in the atlas either. A big mountain or something would probably make sense though.... hmmmmmm.... something like that with transparencies.... yaaaaay A, B, C, D, E, F... And because it is a font you are able to make them reeeeeaaaaaalllllly big!!!!!!
Maybe someone can make a better star font than I showed in the video...as you can see i'm not that artistic Lol
I made a font on fontstruct called buildbox.font.star Here's a link that hopefully should work: http://fontstruct.com/fontstructions/show/1301297/buildbox-font-star If someone could figure out a way for the 0 input to be left as blank(because it currently is set to be a dot or 0 be default)
Thanks!! I think the 0 should have 5 dots. Then 1 should have 1 star and 4 dots and so on. This would let the player know that they need 5 or 3 stars to fully complete the level. So I suggest you make a 3 star and 5 star version. Thanks again for the help!!!
