Hi, I am a graphic design student, and i am finishing my studies this year. For my final project i wanted to create something connected with typefaces. As i used buildbox before, i came upon the idea of creating a game about typefaces. My main concept was to make 26 levels of the english alphabet, made of different typefaces ( like Gill Sans, Bodoni etc,). Once you reach the end of a level, it will show you the exact typeface i used for that level, and some info about it like who designed it and when. The title, MAJUSCULA comes from the term majuscule which means capital letters in latin, as i only used capital letters for the levels. I attached some screenshots and a trailer so you can see the concept behind it. It will be out soon!
That looks pretty cool, how are you going to resolve the copyright issues though? I can imagine that you need a written permission from each typeface owner (in the hope they won't charge you since it is a pretty nice promo for them). Did you approach them saying: I got this opportunity here do you want to be in the game?
I didn't know that. Thanks for clarification. So if you use the font as a font in Buildbox, does it get converted to an image too? @Andy?
Nice idea about fonts...funny how they actually seem to create a nice level...secondly...GREAT looking game play ! Good luck to you !
Very nice, I suggest for the pieces of the letter that are just filled with spikes that you should have some sort of reward for venturing in there as well as giving a way to venture in there. This utilizes the game design concept of "triangularity" which essentially gives the game player an easy or hard option. The hard option should have a high reward. This way the pathways that are dead ends can still be used and have a function and make the game more interesting for the player.
Very nice looking game. It's the same idea behind https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/type-rider/id667443268?mt=8 from Bulkypix. When is the game coming out? Who is the publisher? What inspired the name?
That is a very nice idea! The thing is that sadly i dont think i am able to make this, as i already had to deal with lag issues because the levels are FULL of small objects. This way, as you said to make two ways on each level one harder and one easier, i think i would have to make the levels twice as big which would make it too laggy, unable to work.
Wow, i didnt know this game. It looks like a bit more casual game focusing more on the history of the typography world. Mine is similar in difficulty to Phases in some levels. The game is hopefully coming out in the next weeks. I have not contacted a publisher yet, but i will contact one in the next days, i am not sure yet which one. The name MAJUSCULA comes from the term majuscule which means capital letters in latin, as i only used capital letters for the levels.
