Working on something 'space' related and rather than have a missile or bullet I'd like my ship to fire a laser-like effect similar to the character's fire in the old game Jet Pac (video below). Any suggestions on where to start? I thought about a long thin 3d object, but that just appears all at once and my ship isn't big enough to obscure it to make it looks like it's 'growing'
