Just create an image and either drag it onto the image you would like the shadow, or as a separate game object under the image, changing it to a decoration.

Can the image follow the character?

Also i think it will look bad because if object it's falling from the sky the shadow will stay the same

Yes it will. You dont need to use connections. I pasted a shadow for my Trump game into the character animation image and it follows him everywhere. It's not attached.

When he jumps, the shadow either isnt there, or I place it much lower down to give it some depth.

You can easily create a shadow as in the ketchapp-game "The Pit" by following the tips of other answers. But it is impossible to do the same shadow as in the screenshoot you took (Mr. Jump is developed in objective-c, and don't use any images), Builbox can not do something like that ^^

In the PIT game, when player jumps shadows keeps floating in the AIR under the character even if there is no ground under :)

This is why I said that it’s easy to make this kind of shadow with Buildbox. :)
