Two resources that have been invaluable to me are the books: Thinkertoys The Art of Game design Other resources I've found along the way are: http://www.spriters-resource.com/ http://www.qubicle-constructor.com/ http://pyxeledit.com/ http://www.marmoset.co/hexels http://www.pixelmator.com/mac/ https://color.adobe.com/ To name a few.
I also feel like color theory is very important to making your graphics. If you have no idea bout color theory I encourage you all to learn about it: http://www.colormatters.com/color-and-design/basic-color-theory http://www.creativebloq.com/colour/colour-theory-11121290 Also another great graphic art set of tutorials: http://www.2dgameartguru.com/
This Game GUI is the one I use for my games. Very high quality. http://graphicburger.com/mobile-game-gui/
www.mobilegamegraphics.com We just launched our own Asset store with complete themes for game developers. Have nice launch discounts as well. Feel free to comment or suggest improvements or ideas
Your artwork looks great but I have a question. What is the point in buying the artwork if it's not exclusive ? if you want to make a great game that people will know and recognize, if you put a lot of hours into it, then buying assets like that ..... what is the point ? and I'm not saying it in a bad way.
Eyal I agree with you. Don't want to argue about that. They only suggest. If you don't want to use it, then don't use it. It is optional. and I'm not saying it in a bad way.
No harm taken I started MobileGameGraphics due to the lack and inconsistency in ready graphics that are more or less nonexistent today. A great game is not only based on it's graphics but all aspects of it, such as level design, sounds/audio, engine/coding, design, and story. If I see same graphics in two very different games I will still play or buy the one that has all elements of a game design aligned well. (based on real events) Take for ex. a simple runner platform game vs a game that has multiplayer capabilities with deep character customization and progress with great character control and feeling, where you can be 4 simultaneous players killing each other on a "King of the Hill" type of gameplay. Crazy action based type of game - would you neglect the game due to the fact that you've seen some of the assets in another game? It is certainly a personal taste factor. I also believe in giving everyone the opportunity to have consistent and great graphics in their games - an operation what would normally cost at least $8-15k and take 2-6 months. We have customers who actually buy our assets only for the start-up phase of their Game - for playtesting, while the original graphics are being created, which saves them a lot of time. Some customers buy the assets and make their own animations and versions as you can easily switch between body parts (not all our themes have split body parts though) There is a big need for ready assets today actually - it doesn't mean they are used for the final product only. All Major game Buiders now have their own Asset stores growing in size and variations - so there is a market for this kind of assets, especially high quality ones like ours (of course)
Foe example: My new "Silk Road Runner" game is made with assets that I spent max 25 dollars. https://www.facebook.com/silk.road.runner.game. You can watch promo videos on my Facebook page. You can't see the difference. I just published on android platform. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.multiaki.sr IOS store not approved yet. It is faster to find an asset I want, rather than spending a lot of money then realize that it is not what you meant. I really appreciate all asset store that provide cheap quality products
Yes there is nothing wrong with @mobile_gamegraphics business model. It's your choice to hire an artist to make graphics just for you or to purchase graphics that anyone can use. The latter is a good option for those who cannot afford the higher price for custom graphics. The former is a much cheaper alternative for the struggling developer. I think that is one of the main points of having graphics that are available to everyone who purchases @eyal
Just thought I would post this (if allowed) We just launched some very nice game asset pack. There is a 50% OFF and we hav some nice assets on sale as well... http://us9.campaign-archive2.com/?u=0b88212226d9afeed51afd712&id=e46a2abd1a Let me know if you have any questions
This has been my favorite for animation effects. No need to buy effects on graphic river when you can buy this and have more than you can imagine for free by downloading the libraries. TimelineFX http://www.rigzsoft.co.uk Apparently a member on GR is selling the sprites from the software. Here you have the wholesale package.
I'm SO grateful to everyone who's contributing and adding value in the BB forum, in terms of resources/ advice / cowboy speeches. Thanks guys! I've been brushing up on some basics of human psychology as they apply to game design and development. Here's a list of articles with design principles I'm keeping in mind while tooling around in BB.
