Is it better to do menu & gameplay background from smaller pictures and just copy paste them next to each other so it takes less place in atlases? I also make my gameplay background from decorations and don't have real background at all.. Is that ok? Game seems to run well.
If you can work with images of very small size and the same color or gradient, which allows you to expand to the whole screen, you save a lot of weight in the game. And always reuse all the resources you can. For example, if you want a green background for the background of the menu, create a very small image, maybe 24x24 and then expand it to full width and height.
Yes, in my case my background is brick wall which I make from copy pasting the background full of images since I can't expand it.. Hopefully it doesn't effect my game in a bad way..
