Wow, thanks all. Featured in all of Europe. Also, Blocky is a trademarked Name by Full Fat.. got an complaint notice within minutes of the feature. So no blocky in your game names. So had to change the game name to ENDLESS INVADERS, hahaha. But hopefully its all good...
So crazy, there is another game with blocky in the title https://itunes.apple.com/app/blocky-snakes/id1313765726?mt=8 Congrats on the feature!
Congrats on the feature man! Really cool looking game. Did you contact any media or Apple for the feature?
Two things. Firstly congrats on the feature, I have downloaded and playing now. 2nd and probably the most important - Full Fat do NOT have a Trademark to use the word 'blocky' EU Opposed Trademark They only hold the Trademark for the UK only. So you can't call it Blocky in the UK, but anywhere else is ok. It's up to you if you wish to challenge it.
Wow thats interesting to know, they haven't responded to any communication so i just changed it to keep the peace. Thanks a lot.
thats funny hey.. I'm sure there is lots of games with Blocky in the name, well google play is full of them. hahaha And thanks a lot..
Thanks, no i didn't contact anyone, i was quite shocked. Though i did put in touch arcade , and as @kevin from rising high said in his video, there were no other real casual games released. Probably stayed away not to compete with Harry potters release this week.?
I remember having the same issue with King over the word 'Candy'. After some research, they only trademarked the name in the EU - but it has recently been revoked after a challenge. Normally if a name is trademarked or registered with will say in the name. 'Blocky - TM' I would look at the ASO if removing Blocky impacts your downloads. If not, no biggie but if it does, I would maybe reconsider using it, with the information provided to Apple.
Did you get the complaint through Apple? If yes, you can as well ignore it, Apple is only a mediator. They never take down an app because someone complaints. They only mediate. Kevin just recently talked about that in one of the live sessions. Google though is different, they can even ban your account if the one who complaints submitted enough proof. But as others said, just because of a name I highly doubt this would happen. But if you have the name and the design or the main character or whatever, then you definitely can get problems. Otherwise, it's very very difficult to have the rights for a word alone.
The thing is, companies with money will try and trademark/copyright a name. King were sneaking when trademarking the word 'Candy' - they went to Malta and did it and it was approved because there's no way on earth a US/UK IPO would allow it to be registered. Then when people found out, one of the other big players in the match 3 world filed a complaint and just recently the trademark was overturned.
The cancellation is pending. The search at the Euro IPO is very slow and you only get full details if you registered. The only reason why I did, was because I had King slap IP claims against my match 3 game years ago.
