I tried putting a black light in the scene but that doesn't work, in fact, i don't know if lights have been black in the past, but in bb 2.0.1, every color but black works... how are games achieving a dark world with a light on your character lighting the way?

The trick is to have an object that has a circle cut into the middle to make the player and incoming objects visible. Hope this makes sense

Ahhhh that's why if I move the light behind player, it's invicible.

But how does that make the world around the character dark?

ive seen a few games do this and could never figure out how. oohhhhhh i think i just thought of how.......make lights everywhere but make the light color.....black lol. or make a few lights but their radius way up......bout to try...
EDIT: WWWOOOORRRRKKKKSSS. Make black lights and choose CAST SHADOW.
EDIT2: Ok, still tricky. But i know this has to be the way. Trying to figure out how to line it up just right....

I think that could be achieved by taking a BLACK png image and cutting a circle in the middle of it and adding it on top of the player in the animation editor(and expand the size of that image so the character in the middle shows); so you could achieve a complete blacked out effect around the world but make the character show.

So when you walk around in the world everything within the radius of the cut out circle is visible (including character) but outside the radius everything is blacked out. That's one way I'd go about it, but I'm sure there are better ways to achieve the effect

Could do that, then make it slightly transparent.....place black lights far off and it should look as if objects go from dark to light as you approach.

Have a huge black png image and cut a circle inside of it. To decrease image size just have a small black box and drag it into the animation editor to surround the box with the circle cut inside.

Hey @heathclose, you still have this issue?

In GIMP you can create a mask image, like this (just get this one for testing):

    blackMist.png

Note that the "white" circle is transparent, it is just that this website has white background that you see in here... OK, so grab it, then select your character and edit default animation, drag the image as Image. My image was not centric, so it can cover more on the front. Because of that you need to set X:256 / Y:0 on the character animation (assuming your main animation is at X:0/Y:0)

So then here you go, you get an illumination effect in your game:

    This worked for me:
Make a connection like this Character --> Invisible object (object in the bg color) --> Spot light...after connecting move the light ahead of the character

I'm unable to upload pics I don't why but this would make the light move with the character. If you have a black background and a light along with the character you could achieve the same effect.
