With the release of Android Studio and how it was written by Google Android and with it support for gradle which is the Standard for Android Development. I think it would be best to drop Eclipse support in favor for Android Studio as it does not require to install any third party plugins and is packaged in the Android SDK.

Eclipse Support has basically been dropped for the most part and Android Studio is better equipped for the job as it has a better interface and debugging capability then Eclipse for Android projects

The change over to Android Studio from Eclipse is planned already. Until then it will be Eclipse, but Android Studio Support is coming

Additionally, Apache ANT is supported for building from the command line.  Eclipse is optional in case you prefer an IDE.
